Templates Module - Usage and Tips

Using AI-Powered Template Generation

  1. Trigger template generation:
    • Use the command palette
    • Use a custom hotkey (if configured)
  2. Enter your prompt or select a pre-existing template
  3. The AI will generate content based on your input and current note context

Managing Templates

  1. Set up your templates folder:
    • Go to plugin settings
    • Set the "Templates folder" location
  2. Create new templates:
    • Create a new markdown file in your templates folder
    • Add frontmatter with template properties
    • Write your template content and prompts
  3. Edit or delete templates directly in your Obsidian vault

Using Template Suggestions

  1. Start typing the trigger key (default: '/') in your note
  2. Browse through suggested templates
  3. Continue typing to filter suggestions
  4. Select a template to insert or generate content

Using Blank Templates

  1. Trigger the blank template modal using one of these methods:
    • Use the command palette and search for "Open Blank Template Modal"
    • Use a custom hotkey (if configured)
    • Use the trigger key (default: '/') with selected text
  2. Enter your prompt in the provided text area
  3. Optionally select a system template from the dropdown suggestions
    • The cursor will automatically focus on the prompt area after selection
  4. Toggle pre-context and post-context options if needed
  5. Click "Generate" or use Mod+Enter to create content

Note: You must have an active note open to use the Blank Template Modal.

Template Syncing

  1. Enable template syncing in settings
  2. Enter your license key
  3. The module will automatically check for updates every 3 hours
  4. Manually trigger a sync from settings when needed

Best Practices

  1. Organize templates into subfolders for better management
  2. Use descriptive names and tags for easy template discovery
  3. Leverage the blank template feature for quick, ad-hoc content generation
  4. Experiment with different AI models to find the best fit for various template types
  5. Regularly review and update your templates to ensure they remain relevant and useful
