Start using AI in Obsidian in under 5 minutes

Your first AI chat in 3 steps

1. Install SystemSculpt AI (2 minutes)

Open Settings (the gear icon ⚙️) → Community Plugins → Browse → Search "SystemSculpt" → Install → Enable

2. Click the message square icon

Find it in your left sidebar. Click to open your first chat!

3. Start chatting

Type anything and press Enter. Try:

  • "Help me organize my daily notes"
  • "What can you do?"
  • "Summarize this note" (drag a note into chat first)

That's it! You're now chatting with AI inside Obsidian.

Choose your AI (30 seconds)

SystemSculpt works with any AI provider. Pick what works for you:

Option 1: Use SystemSculpt AI (easiest)

  1. Get a SystemSculpt AI license key at systemsculpt.com
  2. Go to Settings → SystemSculpt → Setup → Add your license key
  3. Click the model indicator button in chat to select a SystemSculpt model
  4. Start chatting with premium AI models!

Option 2: Use your own API key

Have an OpenAI or Anthropic account?

  1. Go to Settings → SystemSculpt → Providers
  2. Click your provider
  3. Paste your API key
  4. Save and start chatting

Want AI on your computer? Set up Ollama in 5 minutes.

  1. Drag any note into the chat window
  2. Ask: "What are the key points here?"
  3. AI reads and summarizes instantly

Turn chaos into structure

  1. Enable Agent Mode (Pro feature - click the gear in chat)
  2. Say: "Look at my recent notes and suggest a folder structure"
  3. AI analyzes your vault and provides organization ideas

"How do I add my OpenAI API key?"

Settings → SystemSculpt → Providers → OpenAI → Add your key → Save

"Can I use this offline?"

Yes! Install Ollama and select local models.

"Where are my chats saved?"

In SystemSculpt/Chats/ folder as JSON files for history, or as markdown when you export them.

"Is this free?"

Core features with your own API keys are free. Pro features (Agent Mode, embeddings, PDF processing, audio transcription) require a SystemSculpt license.

  1. Test Agent Mode (Pro)

    • Enable it in chat settings (requires Pro license)
    • Ask: "Create a new note called 'My Ideas' with a template"
  2. Process a document (Pro)

    • Drag a PDF into chat
    • Ask: "Summarize this document"
  3. Explore slash commands

    • Type / in chat to see all commands
    • Try /new for new chat, /clear to clear messages
  4. Customize your setup

    • Settings → SystemSculpt → AI Chat
    • Set your default model
    • Choose system prompt type

Troubleshooting common issues

Running into issues? Here's help:

  • Nothing happens when I click the message square icon → Reload Obsidian with Ctrl/Cmd + R

  • "No models available" error → Check Settings → SystemSculpt → Providers and add at least one

  • AI seems confused about my notes → Make sure to drag notes into chat or use @ to reference them

  • Can't find a feature → Use Command Palette (Ctrl/Cmd + P) and search "SystemSculpt"
