Mem vs SystemSculpt: AI Notes App or AI in Obsidian (2026)
On this page
Pick Mem if you want an AI notes app that organizes what you capture for you, tracks your tasks and projects, and nudges you at the right moment, with meeting notes and no setup. Pick SystemSculpt if you keep your notes in Obsidian as Markdown files on your own device and want an AI that chats with them and edits them, using your own Claude Code or Codex on desktop or hosted SystemSculpt AI on desktop and mobile, plus audio transcription.
They are different kinds of product. Mem is its own app, with notes stored in Mem's cloud. SystemSculpt is a plugin for Obsidian, a free notes app, so using it means using Obsidian. We make SystemSculpt. Everything below about Mem comes from Mem's own site, pricing page and App Store listing, linked at the end. Facts and prices checked November 3, 2026.

Where Mem fits better
Mem asks you to organize nothing. You write, talk or record a meeting, and Mem Agent works out where it fits, keeps a picture of your tasks, projects and goals, and reaches out when a nudge would help. Push-to-Remember lets you hold a shortcut and say what's on your mind. Voice Mode captures meetings without a bot joining the call.
On Pro ($29 a month), Mem connects to Gmail, Slack or Todoist and runs routines on a schedule, such as a weekly briefing or a meal plan note every Sunday. It runs on Mac, Windows and iPhone, and exports notes and collections as Markdown.
Choose Mem if you want an assistant that keeps track of your work for you, you'd rather not file notes yourself, or you want meeting notes with no bot and no setup.
Where SystemSculpt fits better
SystemSculpt is for people who keep notes in Obsidian as plain Markdown files on their own device. There is no monthly limit on notes: your vault is yours, and only hosted AI uses credits. Its chat reads the notes you attach or allow and writes back as files: on desktop through your own Claude Code or Codex with no SystemSculpt plan, or through hosted SystemSculpt AI on desktop and mobile. It also transcribes audio files to Markdown or SRT, turns a YouTube video into a note with a timestamped transcript, and converts PDFs to Markdown.
Obsidian runs on Android as well as iPhone, Mac, Windows and Linux. Mem lists no Android or Linux app.
Choose SystemSculpt if you want your notes as files you own, AI chat that edits them, transcription and PDF conversion, and no cap on how many notes you write.
Can you use both?
Yes, though most people pick one place for notes. Mem exports notes and collections as Markdown, so you can move them into an Obsidian vault, or keep Mem for meetings and tasks and Obsidian for long-form notes.
Questions
Is Mem free? Yes, with limits. Mem Free includes 25 messages to Mem, 25 new notes and 3 hours of Voice Mode a month. Mem Plus is $9 a month and Mem Pro is $29.
Does Mem work with Obsidian? Not directly. Mem keeps notes in its own app. It exports notes and collections as Markdown files, which Obsidian opens as a vault.
Is Mem end-to-end encrypted? No. Mem's pricing FAQ says data is encrypted at rest and in transit but not end to end, because Mem needs to process your notes to provide its AI.
Can SystemSculpt organize my notes like Mem? Partly. SystemSculpt's chat creates, edits and, with your OK, moves notes when you ask, and Similar Notes shows related notes. It doesn't watch your notes in the background or send you nudges the way Mem Agent does.
What does SystemSculpt cost? It's free to install, and desktop chat with your own Claude Code or Codex needs no SystemSculpt plan. Eligible new accounts can claim 500 one-time starter credits for hosted AI with no card. Paid plans are $9 a month or $90 a year.
Do I keep my notes if I stop using either one? With SystemSculpt, yes: your notes stay Markdown files in your vault, and its chats, transcripts and converted documents are Markdown notes too. With Mem, your notes live in Mem's cloud, and you can export them as Markdown.
