Copilot for Obsidian vs SystemSculpt: Which AI Plugin Fits (2026)

Published 6 min read

On this page

Pick Copilot if you want the widest choice of AI in Obsidian: Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode as agents, your own API keys, local models, or Copilot's hosted models with Plus. Pick SystemSculpt if you want AI chat that edits your notes on desktop and on your phone, plus audio transcription, YouTube-to-note and PDF conversion in the same plugin, with chats and transcripts saved as Markdown in your vault.

Both run Claude Code and Codex in your vault on desktop, free with your own account. We make SystemSculpt. Everything below about Copilot comes from its own README, docs and pricing page, linked at the end. Facts and prices checked November 3, 2026.

Where Copilot fits better

Copilot gives you many ways to run AI. Its Agent connects Claude Code or Codex with their existing logins, or runs OpenCode, which Copilot downloads for you and which can use your own provider key, a local model or Copilot-hosted models. Quick Chat and Quick Ask work with your own keys or local models too, and they work on your phone.

It also has the larger community by far: about 3.18 million downloads against SystemSculpt's 38,809. Projects give ongoing work its own instructions and context, and a Skill added once can be turned on for each agent. Meaning-based search and PDF parsing run locally through Miyo, Copilot's separate app, at no cost.

Plus, at $14.99 a month or $139.99 a year, adds Copilot-hosted models, requests to several agents at once, better web search, and capture skills for YouTube and X.

Choose Copilot if you want local models or your own API keys, the most agents and models to choose from, or free search that runs on your device.

Where SystemSculpt fits better

SystemSculpt puts audio, documents and chat in one plugin. It records voice notes and meetings in Obsidian, transcribes audio files to Markdown or SRT, turns a YouTube video into a note with a timestamped transcript, and converts PDFs and images to Markdown. Its Similar Notes panel lists related notes without a second app.

On your phone, SystemSculpt's chat works with hosted SystemSculpt AI and can create and edit notes there, where Copilot's Agent is desktop only. Hosted AI costs $9 a month or $90 a year, against $14.99 a month for Copilot Plus, and on desktop your own Claude Code or Codex needs no SystemSculpt plan at all.

Choose SystemSculpt if you want transcription, YouTube and PDF notes, related notes and chat in one plugin, or an AI that works on your notes from your phone.

Can you use both?

Yes. They install side by side, and both work on the same Markdown files. You could keep Copilot for local models and your own keys, and use SystemSculpt for audio, PDFs and chat on your phone.

Questions

Is Copilot for Obsidian free? Yes. The free plan works with your own Claude or ChatGPT subscription, an API key or a local model, with no account or license key. Plus is $14.99 a month or $139.99 a year, and Supporter is $349.99 once for two years of Plus and lifetime self-hosting.

Do Copilot and SystemSculpt both run Claude Code? Yes, on desktop. Each connects your installed Claude Code and uses your Claude Code login, with no paid plan from the plugin. Both also run Codex. Copilot adds OpenCode.

Which one works on my phone? Both, in different ways. Copilot's Quick Chat, Quick Ask and Commands work on mobile; its Agent is desktop only. SystemSculpt chat works on mobile with hosted SystemSculpt AI, and can create and edit notes there.

Does SystemSculpt work with local models or my own API key? No. SystemSculpt chat runs your own Claude Code or Codex, or hosted SystemSculpt AI. For local models or your own keys, Copilot is the better choice.

What does SystemSculpt cost? It's free to install, and desktop chat with your own Claude Code or Codex needs no SystemSculpt plan. Eligible new accounts can claim 500 one-time starter credits for hosted AI with no card. Paid plans are $9 a month or $90 a year.

Do I keep my notes if I stop using either plugin? Yes. Your notes stay Markdown files in your vault either way. Copilot can save chats as Markdown notes, and SystemSculpt's chats, transcripts and converted documents are Markdown notes too.
