Any PDF with text in it. Word and HTML files work too.
What it keeps
Clean Markdown, ready for Obsidian.
One note, with the structure you can see in the file.
- Headings
- Larger type becomes # headings, in the order of its size.
- Paragraphs and lists
- Lines join into paragraphs, and words split by a hyphen at a line end join again. Bullets and numbers become lists.
- No page clutter
- Page numbers and the header or footer repeated on every page are left out.
In your vault
Convert PDFs inside your vault.

Questions.
Is my file uploaded?
No. The file is read and converted in your browser and isn’t uploaded or stored.
Why does a scanned PDF not work?
A scanned PDF holds pictures of pages, with no text in it. Reading it needs text recognition (OCR), which this converter doesn’t do, so it tells you instead of returning an empty note. SystemSculpt’s Convert to Markdown in Obsidian takes PDFs and images, using hosted processing.
What about tables and images?
A PDF stores text by position and doesn’t mark which text is a table, so table cells come out as lines of text. Images are left out.
Does it work with password-protected PDFs?
No. Open the PDF, save a copy without the password, then drop that copy.
Does it cost anything?
No. It’s free, with no account and no sign-up.
