How do I write math in Obsidian?
Inline math goes between single dollar signs, like $E = mc^2$. A block goes between double dollar signs, on lines of its own. Obsidian draws both in Reading view and Live Preview. Copy for Obsidian copies the equation in the style you picked.
Will it look the same in Obsidian?
Almost always. This page draws with KaTeX and Obsidian uses MathJax. Both read standard LaTeX math, so fractions, roots, sums, matrices and Greek letters look alike; a few rare commands exist in only one of them.
How do I line up equations or write a matrix?
Use an aligned block and put & before each equals sign, with \\ between lines. For a matrix, write \begin{bmatrix} a & b \\ c & d \end{bmatrix}. The buttons write both for you.
Is my equation uploaded?
No. The equation is drawn in your browser and isn’t uploaded or stored.
Does it cost anything?
No. It’s free, with no account and no sign-up.
