What it does

A table, without counting pipes.

Need the rest of the syntax? The Markdown cheat sheet has it on one page.

Paste anything tabular
An Excel or Google Sheets range, CSV, or a Markdown table to edit. Paste into any cell or the box above the grid.
Align columns
Left, centre or right per column, written as colons in the line under the header.
Clean output
Pipes in cells are escaped and columns are padded to line up in plain text, or left compact.

Questions.

How do I paste from Excel or Google Sheets?

Select the cells and copy them, then paste into the first cell of the grid or into the paste box. Spreadsheets copy as tab-separated text, so each cell lands in its own column and the first row becomes the header.

How do I align a column in a Markdown table?

With colons in the line under the header: :--- for left, :---: for centre and ---: for right. Pick the alignment above each column and the generator writes it.

How do I put a pipe or a line break in a cell?

A pipe would end the cell, so the generator writes it as \|. Markdown tables have no multi-line cells; a line break in a cell is written as <br>, which Obsidian and GitHub show as a new line.

Is my table uploaded?

No. The table is made in your browser and isn’t uploaded or stored.

Does it cost anything?

No. It’s free, with no account and no sign-up.
