How do I add a Mermaid diagram to Obsidian?
Put the code in a fenced code block that starts with ```mermaid on its own line and ends with ```. Obsidian draws it in Reading view and in Live Preview. Copy for Obsidian copies the whole block, ready to paste into a note.
Why does my diagram show an error?
Mermaid stops at the first line it can’t read and the editor shows that line. Common causes are a missing arrow, an unclosed bracket or quote, and a node named end in lowercase, which Mermaid reads as a keyword. Write End or put it in quotes.
Will it look the same in Obsidian?
Mostly. Obsidian ships its own Mermaid version and applies its own theme, so colours and spacing can differ, and a diagram type newer than Obsidian’s Mermaid may not draw there yet.
Can I save the diagram as an image?
Yes. Download SVG keeps it sharp at any size. Download PNG saves it at twice its size on screen, on a white or dark background to match the theme.
Is my diagram uploaded?
No. The diagram is drawn in your browser and isn’t uploaded or stored.
Does it cost anything?
No. It’s free, with no account and no sign-up.
